As you stroll the Woodcrest and its adjacent grounds, you'll be surrounded by history. During the Civil War, the property was know as Cotton Hill and was the site of several skirmishes as well as serving as a camp site area for both North and South at different times. The actually road that was marched by both sides to the top of Cotton Hill can still be seen and followed. You may find a memorable Civil War era souvenirs in the form of actual artillery remnants or musket balls as you explore the property.
There are also a number of Civil War period graves on the property including Confederate Captain Nathan Louborough for whom one of our suites is named.
The original structure was built in the very early 1900s. Though recently remodeled and modernized, great pains were taken to preserve the original historic character and charm. Within the Woodcrest, you'll see preserve memorabilia such as a letter written by a resident in 1925, and a 1945 calendar and newspaper. Authentic antiques and period piece furniture complement the structure's cozy ambience.
